Dear Parents and Students
We have had another busy term with lots to celebrate. Three groups
of Year 11 students sat their GCSE English Language early and
achieved excellent results. 85% of students were awarded an A*-C
grade. A number of Year 13 students completed the Extended Project.
This is a new qualification equivalent to an AS level. The project is on
a topic of the students’ choice and is entirely research based. Six
students completed the course, four achieved full marks and were
awarded A* grades, two students achieved a Grade A.
Congratulations to all these students whose hard work has been
rewarded.
In January we welcomed Miss Warrington to the English Department,
she has settled into life at Burford very quickly. Mrs Lockhart retired
from her post as a Teaching Assistant at the start of February after
many years at the school. We wish her well in the future.
We have been holding our Sixth Form Induction events this term. The
Open Evening took place despite the snow and attracted record
numbers of students and their parents from our own Year 11 and many
local schools. The Sixth Form Taster Day gave students the
opportunity to experience `A’ level lessons and the privileges of
belonging to Burford Sixth Form. With nearly 30 different AS courses
available and the additional BTEC courses in Musical Theatre,
Engineering and Sport, it was a very busy day.
I was very proud when the students suggested a non-uniform day to
raise money to help the people in Haiti. The final total was over£1,500. Well done to everyone who took part.
Finally, I would like to thank all those parents, governors and staff who
helped to clear the site during the snow. Thanks to their efforts we
were able to remain open.
Yours sincerely
K Haig (Mrs)
