IMG_3414This year we are holding an Open Day on Thursday 21 September.  The Boarding Department will be open for visitors from 2.30pm and the Day School will be open from 4.30pm.  The Headteacher will speak at 5.30pm and again at 7.00pm in the Main Hall and each department will be showcasing a range of activities illustrating, not only what we teach, but how learning is delivered here at Burford.

There will be opportunities for parents to meet the staff, discuss school transport arrangements, learn more about the admissions procedure and enjoy refreshments from our excellent canteen.

All prospective parents and students are invited. The majority of our visitors have children currently in Year 6 but each year we also see parents of Year 5 or even Year 4 children who are looking ahead and allowing themselves time to consider the next step for their child.

In addition we see parents with students who are looking to move into years higher up the school, particularly into years 9 and 10 for GCSEs, and this is a point at which we frequently create an additional class to accommodate requirements.

This is the second year we have opened the Boarding Department alongside our September Open Evening.  It is an opportunity for visitors to see around Boarding Houses and meet the new boarding staff.  Current boarding students will be on hand to provide tours of the Boarding House and answer questions.

Visits on a normal working day

Parents and students are also welcome to visit on any working day by prior arrangement.  We believe that seeing the school in action is an excellent way to get a feel for the ethos, attitude and atmosphere here at Burford. You will be taken around the school by a member of staff or one of the senior Sixth Formers giving you plenty of time to ask any questions.

Visiting the School and the Boarding Houses

If you are considering a boarding place and would like to visit on a day other than our Open Day then the procedure is to visit the Day School before going on to Boarding which is sited in the middle of Burford.  Your visits can both take place on the same day. Please see the instructions on making an appointment under Boarding or make a request to visit using the contact form.

Sixth Form Open Evening

Each autumn we hold a Sixth Form Open Evening, when students and parents have a chance to hear all about the Sixth Form from the Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form. Life in the Sixth Form from a students’ perspective is also provided by the current Head Boy and Girl. Staff and student representatives from all the ‘A’ level and BTEC courses offered are on-hand during the evening to discuss course content and offer information and advice.

Following the Open Evening students attend a Sixth Form Taster Day and apply for a place in January.  Please see Applying for a Sixth Form Place for further details
