Healthy Eating

IMG_4168Staff and students both share the meals provided by the Canteen, creating a social atmosphere where everyone eats together. There are three dining areas, one specifically for the Sixth Form, one for Year 7 students, which is also used by the staff, and a general one where all years can mix.  In the summer, The Amphitheatre, just outside the main Dining Room is always in use.

Students are encouraged to take water bottles into class to ensure they do not suffer from de-hydration during the day. At lunchtimes they can choose whether to have a hot or cold lunch and those having packed lunches and school lunches are able to sit together to eat.

National Healthy Schools Status

At Burford we are proud to have been awarded ‘National Healthy Schools’ status.  This status requires us to meet a number of criteria; one of which is healthy eating. Healthy eating includes healthy and nutritious foods being made in the school canteen.  At Burford we are fortunate to have the facilities and staff that allow us to prepare fresh, home cooked food on site. We offer a varied selection of hot and cold food throughout the day. This includes breakfast, break time and lunch. Our policy is to provide balanced and healthy food which also tastes great.  Alongside our standard daily menus we enjoy cooking for special themed days.

Our cashless system

We run a biometric system which means that parents can top up their child’s account online or the students themselves can add funds at the machines located on site.

The catering staff are very happy to listen to any concerns or suggestions that students may have and any questions can be directed to the Catering Manager, Mrs C Black c.black@burford.oxon.sch.uk

Free school meals are available to students who meet certain criteria.
