Military Historian brings World War I alive
Jeremy Banning, Military Historian and specialist on the First World War gave a fascinating talk yesterday, to Year 9 students, on life for the ordinary soldier during WW1. He provided a great insight not just into life in the trenches, but also the camaraderie between soldiers and the truth behind the Christmas Truce. In addition students were given an insight into his archaeological work on projects such as ‘Time Team’ and ‘Who do you think you are?’
Minister of State acknowledges success
We were delighted to receive a letter from the Minister of State for Schools, following the Department of Education’s validated statistics for the 2014 GCSE and ‘A’ Level results, in which he says:
‘Your school has proven to be one of the top 90 in England. I would like to congratulate your staff, governors, parents and pupils for their hard work and success, and thank you for your leadership in making such a difference to the future success of your pupils. I would also encourage you to share your achievement with other schools so that they can learn from your strengths and experience.’
Rt Hon David Laws MP
Minister of State for Schools
The results confirm that Burford School is academically the best performing school in West Oxfordshire and one of the top 90 in the country.
This is a fantastic accolade for students and staff, a vote of confidence for current parents whose children are already part of Burford and the highest recommendation possible for all those seeking secondary education in the near future.
