‘Dollar Kebab’ – Student Investor Challenge Success

‘Dollar Kebab’ – Student Investor Challenge Success

For the last month almost 8,500 teams from all around the United Kingdom, and international schools abroad, have been taking part in the National IFS Student Investor Challenge, the UK’s premier investment competition. The competition involves teams investing £100,000 of virtual money in the stock market, keeping portfolios healthy by reading and forecasting market information provided online, to identify shares and make judgments on when to buy and sell to make a profit.  After the first month of trading the four teams most successful were awarded a ‘wildcard’ into the next round.

Dollar Kebab”, a team from Burford School, achieved this honour by coming first in the South-west England and South Wales area against fierce and extensive competition.  This team of four Year 12 students – Alex Chung, Bill Wallace, Dominick Dack and Joseph Meek, have shown great skill in buying and selling and have already made a £15,000 profit. They are now focussing on building on this achievement to achieve overall success in the competition and win the top prize of a trip to New York.

Successful Fashion fundraising for SCCWID

The SCCWID Fashion Show on Wednesday evening, after some hard work, blood, sweat and tears, was a raging success! The models were absolutely amazing (You would think they were professionals). A huge thank you to them, to everyone who participated backstage, bar men, sales, front of house, and, of course to all those who attended and supported us.

The total raised was over £1500, so a great boost to the charity. Special thanks go to Kara McLoughlin and Kym Bradshaw who helped me organise the whole thing! Talloulah Matthews
