Boarding House Open Evening

Boarding House Open Evening

In advance of our Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday 26 November we held our first Boarding House Open Evening between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.  There were a whole host of things going on and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming.

Parents and students were able to see the house in full swing, with students having tea, enjoying the common rooms, exercising and using the equipment in the gym and getting creative with clay.  Those enjoying more independent living, prior to university, were busy baking in their self-catering kitchen and members of the Year 12 Young Enterprise team, Glaze, were promoting their new ‘Cake in a Mug’ products.

Staff were on hand to welcome visitors and provide general information and the students themselves gave guided tours around the house.  The visitors included some coming back for a second visit to the Boarding House, following an individual visit, and those who were showing an interest for the first time.

Sixth Form Open Evening

There was standing room only at our annual Sixth Form Open Evening held on Thursday 26 November. In addition to our Year 11 students who are thinking about next year we also had a record number of visitors attending from other schools.  Mrs Haig, the Headteacher, Mrs Shires, one of our Deputy Heads, and Ms Denny welcomed students to the evening and provided an outline of the Sixth Form ethos and aims, our previous years’ exam results and our curriculum offer.  The student overview and experience was provided by our Head Boy, George Genc and our Head Girl, Elspeth Martin.

With 29 ‘A’ Level and Level 3 courses to choose from, students and parents then went off to speak to the Heads of Departments for the specific subjects they might be considering.  In addition the Gym was full of stands providing information on subjects on offer in the Extended Curriculum.  Mrs Knowles, our Career Adviser was present to give advice and guidance,  the Boarding Team held a display and our Young Enterprise Team, Glaze, launched their wonderful ‘Cake in a Mug’ products to great enthusiasm.
