Great Result at Indoor Athletics
Thirty Year 7 and 8 boys and girls took part in the District Indoor Athletics Competition held at The Marlborough School on the 14 February.
They all performed well, with Year 7 girls coming fifth and Year 7 boys and Year 8 girls coming second.
But victory came for our Year 8 boys, who came first and now go through to the County Finals in April.
Success at District Swimming Gala
Our swimmers performed extremely well at the gala held at Chipping Norton Leisure Centre on Wednesday 6 February.
Our U16 Boys won their competition and the U12, U14, U16 Girls and U12 Boys were all runners-up in their respective competitions.
As a result, they have all qualified for the County Finals in April.
Creative Writing at Denman College
After last year’s successful first Writing Retreat at Asthall Manor, we decided to venture further afield this year to Denman College near Abingdon, for a full day of writing, reading, pastries and time outdoors.
Fifteen students in Years 7, 8, 9, 12 & 13, were led in sessions of silent writing (with writing-based forfeits for the overly-chatty), peer review and feedback, story-telling card games and the rare opportunity to simply sit in a peaceful setting and dedicate real time to their creative writing.
Our thanks to the Burford Foundation for their generous support in funding this trip and to Denman College and the WI for kindly hosting us.
Year 7 Success at District Tournament
The Burford U12 Rugby squad won the District Competition last night, beating Carterton by 14 tries to 0, Marlborough School by 3 tries to 0 and Chipping Norton School by 3 tries to 1, in the final.
The boys now look forward to the County Tournament in March.

Spotlight Talent winners receive their prize
Inner Edge, a band comprising four students from Year 11, have been together for more than two years. The students, Jacob on guitar, Luke on bass, Fletcher on drums and Toby on vocals, rehearse weekly at sessions run by guitar teacher Andy Skittrall, as part of Burford School’s very own Rock School.
In November the band entered the Spotlight Talent competition run by Oxfordshire County Music Service and were crowned overall winners after beating twelve other acts from across the county. Their prize was £500 worth of Marshall equipment which was donated by Professional Music Technology for the band to use in furthering their band’s development.
Jonjo Williams of PMT Oxford visited Burford School to present the equipment to the band and learned about the band’s forthcoming EP which will be released on 16 February. Featuring three original songs the EP is called “How Does it Feel?” and the band will be back in the studio at the weekend recording their next single and are currently putting together a set to perform at gigs in the future. They are planning to compete in the ‘Battle of the Bands’, part of this summer’s Witney Music Festival where winners go on to perform at summer festivals including Tadstock, and the Wychwood Festival.

Juego Espaňol for GCSE Students
Students from Year 10 attended the performance of a Spanish play, at Tudor Hall School near Banbury, on Thursday 31 January.
The language used, was aimed at GCSE students and all students were able to understand the story line. The actors were excellent and used a lot of visual clues to help comprehension.
The students are looking forward to attending the next play, on Wednesday 13 February, which is in French.
