Mr Fuddles Enjoys School Reunion

Mr Fuddles Enjoys School Reunion

The third Old Burfordians Reunion took place on Saturday 21 September and what a lovely afternoon it was.  Ex-students from a number of decades attended and a good catch up was had by all over afternoon tea with delicious cakes.

The guest speaker was the lovely Sally Scott (pictured with Mr. Fuddles), who left Burford in 1999 and now has a successful acting career working regularly in theatre and in TV in shows, such as Holby City, Silent Witness and Lewis. What a delight it was to have her here.

There was much laughter as guests searched for themselves or friends in the fantastic photo display taken from our huge archive, running from the 1930’s up to the present day.

A huge thank you to all those who attended!

Argentinian Culture Visit

Burford hosted a group of thirty five Argentinian students and six teachers from Northfield School in Escobar, province of Buenos Aires.

The students and teachers were on a two week tour of the British Isles and Europe and took time out of their busy schedule to visit Burford School and talk to our Year 9 students about many aspects of Argentinian culture.

They talked about the different landscapes, traditions, music and food and our students were able to taste some Argentinian delicacies.

All students enjoyed the talk, in particular the tasting of “mate”, their National drink and “dulce de leche” which proved to be very popular. We thank Northfield school for visiting us and we hope to continue offering this opportunity to our pupils in the future.

On the 7 September, our boarders enjoyed an afternoon at the Cotswold Water Park. Although it was rather chilly for swimming the inflatables proved great fun, with the girls staying in the water for a lot longer than the boys!

Pre-Season Rugby at The Oratory

Burford’s Senior Rugby Squad travelled to The Oratory on the 11 September for a trial game ahead of the coming season.

Led by Mr Claydon and new Head of Rugby Mr Kaaber, thirty five boys travelled for what proved to be an excellent afternoon’s rugby with all the players securing invaluable game time. Our thanks go to Mr Hennessey and all our friends at The Oratory for a great afternoon.

Australasia Sports Tour 2019

After a fantastic three week trip to New Zealand and Australia, the squad arrived back at Burford on 12 August, to a rapturous welcome from their parents.

Students played football, netball and hockey against schools and clubs, playing twelve matches in total and also spent time with families in both countries.

They visited several towns and cities and experienced many exciting activities, such as a Maori Hangi, jet boating in Sydney Harbour, whale watching, surfing on the Gold Coast and a crocodile show at Australia Zoo.

Congratulations to all thirty five Year 11 students, who were great ambassadors for the school and the UK.
