Reading Week 22 – 26 March
Reading Week got off to a great start with our Patrons of Reading launching the virtual event to all classes. Ian Johnstone to Years 7 – 9 and Martin Stewart to Years 10 -13. They enthused about reading, recommended books to the students and talked about their own titles.
Author, Sarah Oliver, also recorded some talks for our Year 7 and 8 students about the process of publishing and writing biographies which generated a lot of interest and discussion. Students were asked to research someone who interested them and write a mini biography based on the information they had gathered.
Critically acclaimed child and young adult author, Jo Cotterill, joined students for a lively World Book Day chat via Teams. Not only did we have some of her books to sell, Jo had also designed a signed bookplate label for students to have as a keepsake.
The new owner of The Madhatter Bookshop, based in Burford, compiled a selection of books for a Reading Week sale, aimed at Years 7, 8 and 9 with students having the opportunity to take part in a variety of competitions.
