F1 Career Success for Old Burfordian Alister Wright

Alister Wright Old Burfordian

We were delighted to hear from Old Burfordian Alister Wright (2007-2014) recently about his career progression within Formula 1 since leaving Burford School.

After A-Levels at Burford, Alister undertook a Level 3 Motorsport Engineering Diploma at Banbury and Bicester College, before joining the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team in 2022 which is based in Brackley. This was after serving an apprenticeship with the company.

He was an 'engine dresser' for five Grands Prix during the 2021 season, of which the highlight was winning the British GP. Since 2022, he has worked with Williams F1 and continues to work for Mercedes. He is involved in the day-to-day running when on the circuit, where he is 'left front wheel' on F1 driver Alex Albon's car and also 'front jack' in the pit crew.

Alister commented on his exciting role, "I thoroughly enjoy what I do and feel very privileged and fortunate to have got such a fun job!"

We wish him every success for the future!
