Core subjects
The core subjects of English, Maths and Science are taught throughout all Key Stages. English Language & Literature are taught as separate subjects for GCSE and the three subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught separately. At Key Stage 5 all three sciences are taught separately. The Maths Department offer A levels in Maths and Further Maths as well as a Core Maths qualification. The English Department offer A levels in English Literature and English Language & Literature.
All subjects are taught by specialist teachers consisting of a Head of Department and subject specific teachers.
Each department benefits from a programme of enrichment. This can take the form of trips and excursions, subject specific focus days and activities, and visits from science experts during Science Week.
At Key Stage 3 students are put into ability groups for Maths from Year 7, Science from Year 8 and English from Year 9. English classes in Year 7 spend one lesson a fortnight in our Library.
