Farewell to Mrs Cooper
At the end of last term we bade farewell to Mrs Cooper, our long time Librarian at Burford School. Mrs Cooper has been at the school for over 15 years and under her care the Library has seen many developments including the Student Librarian training, the introduction of the the Accelerated Reader programme, the arrival of kindles and the introduction of Oliver. She has sought out and engaged three Patrons of Reading, all of whom have provided inspiration to students across the year groups.
During the many Reading Weeks she has run, numerous authors have visited to give interesting and exciting talks from football to firepower, fantasy to fan fiction. Her friendship with Jim Kaye, illustrator of the Harry Potter books, has resulted in the regular and popular visits Jim has made to the school, and she will be forever remembered as the model and inspiration for his interpretation of Mrs Weasley.
With so many school libraries having closed, or come under threat of closure, we have been very fortunate in retaining ours and Mrs Cooper, along with Mrs Count, has always provided a warm welcome to all those who have shown an interest in books or sought out the library as a centre for some quiet study.
We wish Mrs Cooper the very best in her retirement and look forward to a new phase for the Library under the guidance of Mrs Count.
