    Dear Parents and Students

We are now in the midst of yet another busy and productive term at Burford School and already a little over half way through our school year.

Our examination results in August were outstanding for GCSE, ‘A’ Level and BTec and a reflection of all the hard work students and staff had put in, combined with excellent parental support. We were particularly proud of the GCSE English and Mathematics results, as these were the new ‘tougher’ courses. In English 90% of students achieved a grade 9 – 4 and in Maths 83% achieved a grade 9–4. The School’s Progress 8 (P8) measure was +0.15 for students with Key Stage 2 results and +0.30 for all students. This means students make much better than expected progress from Key Stage 2 to 4. These results put Burford in the top 20% of schools nationally. The picture at ‘A’ level was equally positive with 100% pass rate at ‘A’ Level and BTec. The average grade for students at ‘A’ Level was B across all their subjects. With such excellent GCSE results we welcomed over 130 Year 12 students into our Sixth Form in September.

We have now held our major Open Evenings and our February Open Morning at Lenthall House, our Boarding Department, but are very happy to welcome parents and students for individual tours of the school during a normal school day. Visits can be booked through Mrs Julie Morse, our Admissions Officer on 01993 82303.  If you would like to visit the Boarding Department or enquire about a boarding place, please contact Mrs Sarah Imms, Operations Manager in the Boarding Department, in the first instance, on 01993 823283. The Boarding Department has  grown to 98 boarders this year, with 41 having joined us this September.  It’s an excellent environment in which to take first steps towards more independence whilst still enjoying a warm and secure family atmosphere.
