Parent Teacher Association

Our Aims:

  • To develop more extended relationships between staff, parents and others.
  • To engage in activities which support the school and advance the education of the students.
  • To provide and assist in the provision of such facilities or items for education not provided from statutory funds. These items are selected by the Committee in consultation with members of the Governing Body.

Your PTA

We are a dynamic group of staff and parents who work together to raise funds for the extras that the school would find difficult to provide but which add significant value for the children. In recent years, we have provided money for the jumps and rosettes at the school’s equestrian day, bought rabbit hutches for The Acre, and helped to fund some of the costs associated with the school’s well regarded and much enjoyed music performances.

The PTA not only raises money for the school. We also provide a valuable social element for parents and staff, hosting our own fun events for both children and adults and also providing the much appreciated bar/refreshments at school-run events. This provides opportunities for people to meet each other socially, make new friends, and enjoy the benefits of being part of the wider community at Burford School.

  • Our Meetings
All parents/guardians and staff are welcome at our meetings and are a good way of finding out more about what we do. Meetings are held once or twice a term at 7.00pm in the school library.
  • The next meeting will be on Wednesday 6th November.
  • Meeting minutes – 17 September 2019

How can you support the PTA?

  1. First of all, by coming along to and enjoying our events, buying raffle tickets and refreshments at our bar, and donating to the school through some of the exciting opportunities we have put in place! See below for more details. Your support with any and all of these is incredibly valuable – thank you.
  2. We are always also looking out for practical help and new faces in our team:
  • Bar/Refreshments Team
You may wish to join our fun bar/refreshments team – we help at only about 10 events in the whole year, and the more in the team, the less commitment you would need to make. Lots of support and guidance will be given when you start so you feel confident with what needs to be done, and there will be no expectation for you to get involved in committee work as well (unless you want to!)
  • Committee
Of course, you may have lots of great ideas and would prefer to get stuck into the organisation of events and activities and some of the “behind the scenes” work of the PTA, in which case the committee might appeal to you. We meet once or twice a term (see below for dates for this year) and although everyone is welcome to come to any meeting, we are grateful for those who feel they can regularly contribute and lead on specific activities and events or take on an officer role (Chair, Treasurer, Clerk, 200 Club Administrator)

2018-19 Fundraising Programme

We will be writing to all parents and staff in the first term of the year for their ideas on how they want to be involved in the PTA and for their ideas on events and activities they would be interested in attending or supporting in other ways. This way we hope to provide the social and other fundraising opportunities that you want to have in our programme.

In 2018-19 we will continue to support school departments that need additional contributions for specific purchases or costs. We are also delighted to support an exciting new project to build a multi-sports pitch at the school which it is hoped will benefit not only our pupils and adults associated with the school but also our wider local community. More information about this project will be sent to all parents shortly.

  • Events and Activities
Look out here and on our PTA twitter and the school facebook page for information as new events and activities that support our fundraising are posted.

  • The PTA committee will allocate funds raised this way to any of the various projects it has committed to during the year for the school.

  • Riverford
We are delighted to let you know that we have signed up to fundraise through Riverford Organics.  Every time somebody orders something from Riverford using our school code SCH1217, school will receive a wonderful £15!  They have some brilliant boxes, including some really interesting recipe boxes.  Do please share our code with your family and friends.
