The Annual Alumni Reunion

Our reunion this year was 450th themed with a selection of items on view, some from our archive, which highlighted the extraordinary and impressive history of the school.

Thanks to research by our Head of History, Mrs Eleanor Thomas, visitors were able to learn more about the history of each of the School Houses, which raised a lot of interest.  Former Head of Sport, Mr Bill Williams, had put together an Honours Board featuring students who have gone on to be international sportsmen and women.  The list, extended to over fifty, and featured sportsmen right back to Gilbert Jessop, who played Cricket for England in 1899.

A facsimile of the School Charter raised considerable interest, with many alumni not having seen it before.  Everyone was able to understand what it said as a result of the modern English version which ran alongside it.

Before everyone sat down for tea and cakes, the 450th window, commissioned by former Head, Mrs Kathy Haig, and designed by former student, Caitlin Turner, was unveiled by the new Head, Mr Matthew Albrighton.  Caitlin’s design had been etched onto glass and positioned in one of the windows at the front of the school, by Oxford glass engraver, Mr Phillip Lawson Johnston.  Generously funded by the school’s Foundation Governors the piece will stand as a permanent celebration of 45o years of history.
