Year 11 Careers Event goes online
During the week beginning 9 November the Year 11 students each undertook a virtual mock interview with a range of external employers. Over 220 students took part, with the employers interviewing them via webcam.
At this time of year, the Library is usually full of enthusiastic employer-volunteers ready for face-to-face interviews with our students, however, due to the current pandemic Careers Leader, Mrs Haines, took the event online.
As a result of social distancing, the use of online interviews has grown considerably and is now a practical way for many businesses to recruit new staff. The experience, therefore, gave students a taste of what might lie ahead for them when they apply to college, sixth form or for apprenticeships next year.
Our volunteers were extremely impressed with the students’ efforts in what was, for most, their first interview. Alongside valuable experience for the students it also gave the employers an insight into the capabilities of our Year 11 students and they felt they would highly recommend taking part in the project to other employers.
We are always on the look out to widen our net of employers for this event. If you would like to support careers-related activities at Burford School, please email Mrs Haines, Careers Leader at: firstname.lastname@example.org
