On Thursday 25 January 2024, our Year 8 STEM ambassadors took an exciting trip to The MAD Museum in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Established in 2012, MAD is the country’s only permanent venue for mechanical art, currently displaying over 70 exhibits of automata, kinetic art and other mechanical pieces.
On arrival, students were made to feel very welcome and were astonished by the incredible creations on display with which they could interact and learn more about, as well as exercise their knowledge of physics.
As part of a workshop, some of our students designed roller coasters, thinking about a whole range of factors, from technical considerations, such as the different forces involved, to aesthetics and even emotions. Others used the interactive displays to make their own marble runs and mimic elements of some of the automata on display.
Our students worked brilliantly, with more than one member of the public commenting on how impressed they were with our students' focus and enthusiasm.
