Welcome to Boarding

Boarding has been a feature of Burford School since its foundation in 1571, and today our boarding house, located in the heart of Burford, provides a home to just over one hundred students from the UK and around the world.

As the only state boarding school in Oxfordshire, we are proud to offer the best of education, combining free, high-quality teaching, ambitious extracurricular activities, and an affordable boarding experience. All boarders must hold full UK citizenship, a UK residency permit, or residential status in the UK, and we welcome boarders from the local area, from across the UK, and from around the world.

Our boarders are brave, adventurous and resilient. By choosing to board at Burford, they will find themselves living in a peaceful community, surrounded by a dedicated team of staff and an international group of friends. They will be supported in their studies and encouraged to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them. Above all, they will develop essential skills such as independence, self-motivation and confidence, which will empower them for the future.

Sixth Form Open Day - Boarding Experience

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at life in our Boarding House with supper alongside our boarding community. You’ll meet the Heads of Boarding and hear first-hand from our current Year 12 students about their experiences.

Your ticket also includes entry to our second Sixth Form talk at 6.30 pm, featuring our Headteacher, Head of Sixth Form, Heads of School, and Heads of Boarding.

Following the talk, you’ll have the opportunity to meet subject teachers, explore our A-Level options, and discover more about life at Burford School — including our extensive enrichment and extension programmes.
