Burford School Mr Albrighton Headteacher

Before getting on to a brief message about the generosity of the community, I want to pick from our very busy calendar just a few upcoming dates for your attention. Please do look out for details about how to get hold of tickets, as appropriate, via our website and social media.

Monday, 5 June 2023 – Staff Inset Day - the school will be closed except for those taking GCSE or A-Level exams. Those taking exams should check Parentmail for details about transport.

Friday, 9 June 2023 – Official Opening of the Artificial Hockey Pitch – an afternoon of mixed 7-a-side hockey matches, with staff, students and Old Burfordians showing off their skills simply for the purpose of participating in the joy of sport.

Wednesday, 21 June – Thursday, 22 June 2023 – Year 13 Art and Photography A-Level Showcase at Warwick Hall, Burford. Further details here.

Thursday, 22 June 2023 – MCC v Burford School 1st VI Cricket Match  -  this annual historic match between our school first team and the famous Marylebone Cricket Club will take place this year in the beautiful setting of the ground at Minster Lovell Cricket Club. Spectators welcome, with the match starting at 11.30 am.

Tuesday, 4 July 2023 – Lower School Prize Giving – we will be soon writing to prize winners to invite them to attend this annual event and celebrate excellence within the school.

Tuesday, 11 July – Wednesday 12 July 2023 – Year 10 Drama Production of 'Dracula'. Further details later on in this newsletter.

Wednesday, 19 July 2023 – Summer Gala Concert – the culmination of the musical year. Tickets will go on sale shortly.

In recent days I have called upon the local business community to donate gifts for our upcoming Burford School Development PTA Raffle. This will raise money for the school PTA, in support of the upcoming developments on-site in the school. The generosity shown by members of our community has bowled me over. To find out what I am talking about please go to our Burford School Development PTA Raffle Platform here to register and see what items we are able to offer as prizes today.

We will be adding more prizes to the platform in the coming month, so keep your eyes peeled. Indeed, if you wish to offer a gift for this raffle, please contact admin.4040@burford.oxon.sch.uk

Each prize is raffled separately. The bulk of the raffle prizes will be drawn towards the end of June, however I will pick out for attention the tickets for the Daylesford Summer Festival (further details about the festival are later on in this newsletter). As the festival is only a few weeks away, we will draw a winner for the 2 adult tickets on the afternoon of Friday 9 June just before the opening of the artificial hockey pitch, so don’t hang about! Please note children go free to the festival when accompanied by adults.  Winners will be informed directly as and when each raffle is drawn.  If you wish, there is also an option simply to donate an amount as you see fit.

I would like also to pick out House of Malu which is located on the Hill. If you are interested in buying any goods directly, please contact admin.4040@burford.oxon.sch.uk for a special Burford School discount code. This will give the holder a 10% reduction, however House of Malu will also make a donation of 10% to the school.

And so, as we head into some warm weather, I wish you the very best for a restful Half Term and thank you for your continued support.
