The Burford Community Choir, based at Burford School, brings together staff, parents, current and former pupils, and members of the local community. United by a shared love of music and a generous spirit of participation, the choir is a vibrant and inclusive group where enthusiasm matters just as much as experience.

The choir is proud to present the world premiere of Five Acts of Human Kindness, a newly commissioned work by internationally renowned composer Bob Chilcott, who lives locally. With words by Charles Bennett, the piece reflects on five remarkable true stories of compassion, courage and generosity.

These include the extraordinary moment when members of the public lifted a bus in Walthamstow to save a trapped cyclist; the enduring legacy of J. M. Barrie, who gifted all royalties from Peter Pan to Great Ormond Street Hospital; and the uplifting ‘Thought of the Day’ messages first shared at Earl’s Court Station. The work also explores the founding of the Coram Foundation by Thomas Coram, and concludes with a celebration of Random Acts of Kindness Day.

This special performance forms part of the Burford Festival and will take place on 23 June at 7.00pm at St John the Baptist Church.
