Old Burfordians in the Spotlight: Edward Large

Back to News

Edward Large (1996-2002) is Head Coach and founder of Excel Tennis Academy and now runs one of the largest school programmes in the South of England, with over 3,000 students seen in schools every year!

Setting up the Academy in 2005, at the age of 20, Ed now employs ten coaches who work across six venues in Oxfordshire. Two of his coaching team are also former students of Burford School: Ryan Fitzjohn, who is now the full-time manager of the Academy, and Dominic Mills, who coaches part time alongside his role as the Academy's Social Media and Marketing Development Officer.

Ed says that he owes a lot to his seven years at Burford:
'My experience at school of playing lots of sports gave me a good understanding of how skills can often be transferred from one sport to another and having great teachers at Burford inspired me to set up the Academy'.

We wish Ed and his team every success in the future.
